[Week4]Extra Credit Blog : The Interaction analysis (Seo Eun Su)

For the Interaction assignment, I conducted an observation session myself. First, let me tell you the setting. My observation took place in March 23rd at 7pm. The place I choose was a gym that I go for workout. The day I conducted the observation was not my personal training day, so I was able to watch how people communicate with each other well. Now, let me tell you what I saw there. Among many people, I focused on the behavior or one particular trainer who I will call 'Michael.' When I started watching, Michael was helping his client who looked like a beginner. He acted friendly and active toward her. He kept an eye-contact and always started the first chatting at break times. I heard him trying to make personal connections like, 'I remember your favorite food was pizza, right?' or 'You can call me on weekends and go run together!' Also, When needed to touch her shoulder to fix the position, he was very gentle careful. However, when the session was over, he

Week 4 : Extra Credit Assignment

The Interaction Assignment. What did you do? What did you learn? Was it fun? Based on Goffman's theory, I analyzed the interactions in elevators that are common in everyday life. I chose this interaction because I wanted to prove that I can find a sociological point of view even in this small daily life. After reading Goffman's "The Presentation of Self In Everyday Life," I came to see the world from various perspectives. The society was a kind of "peformance" and that we were "actors" in the play, therefore, each day felt more special and precious. And it was very interesting that I could be not only an observer, but also an 'actor'. In the future, I would like to apply this theory to other interactions to better understand society and analyze its complex relationships.

week4

  1) the Interaction Assignment. What did you do? What did you learn? Was it fun? Among Goffman's theories, I learned the theory of frontstage. I could find it in my daily life. In a space where everyone can see like SNS, everyone acted like actors in front of the stage. But they become more honest in their private spaces. It was interesting to apply Goffman's theory to everyday life.

Week 4 : extra credit assignment (Kim Hye-Jin)

-I have analyzed the people in the airport. -I tried to understand the words mentioned by Goffman.  I have analyzed an interaction taking place in an airport. The point to note here is that the airport is a place where a lot of emotions are expressed. Because it is also a space just before you go on a trip, but it is also a space to reunite with your family or friends after the long trip. Therefore in the airport, there are three types of interactions between people. Let me explain the interaction more specifically.   First of all, there are people waiting for the flight with joyful expressions. They are the people who are waiting for the flight with a good heart because it is the trip they really wanted. They often sit in airport chairs, laugh and chat with their friends or family whom they travel with. And others happily talk on the phone to inform of their travel before the flight. Recently, young people have been active on social media, and they have posted posts on Instagram tha

Q) the Interaction Assignment. What did you do? What did you learn? Was it fun? A) I analyzed the interactions within the machine learning study I participating in based on Goffman's theory. Through Goffman's "The Presentation of Self In Everyday Life," I learned a new perspective on the world. When I thought that what we go through was a kind of "peformance" and that we were "actors" in the play, our daily lives felt more valuable and dramatic. This was a very funny experience for me. Also, the thought of the presence of “the stage” and “behind the stage” gave me a deeper understanding of the interaction process.

Social interaction - Extra Credit Assignment

What is more important: the actions of individuals or the environment that influences them? → I think individual behavior is more important. This is because humans are not passive beings that should be unilaterally influenced by the environment. Of course, the environment affects humans as much as humans affect the environment, but I think that individual behavior is more important because individual needs are inherent in changing the environment. Let's look at the following pictures and try to answer:how do those people feel? Why do they act the way they do? What can we learn from answering those questions? → These pictures show the behavior of people from different cultures around the world. Looking at these pictures, I wanted to think about why these people would act like this and have ideas, but interestingly, I felt that I was looking at them from my own perspective. How are you try to manage your own impression of others? How influenced others? → I would like to show the im

Topics in Sociology: Social interaction - Extra Credit Assignment

What is more important: the actions of individuals or the environment that influences them? I believe that individual behavior is more important than the environment that affects the individual. I think that the environment is created by individuals, institutions are settled, and structured. That's because the environment is the group of individuals and the core is the individual who makes up the environment. Let's look at the following pictures and try to answer:how do those people feel? Why do they act the way they do? What can we learn from answering those questions? It was pictures that I could feel that a person's life was diverse. Every picture shows people's facial expressions, and I wondered what the two monks in India were looking at and what the expression meant. They seem to have seen something they usually haven't seen. By answering these questions, you can understand other people's thoughts, lives, and even society. How are you try to manage your

This is a picture of the last Training for Students.  There are other contents below the picture.   What is more important:the actions of individuals or the environment that influences them? I think that the actions of individuals is more important than the environment that influences them. The reason is most people in similar circumstances live different lives. I think everything depends on mind. Let's look at the following pictures and try to answer:how do those people feel? Why do they act the way they do? What can we learn from answering those questions? There are many people, of which factory worker in the USA stands out the most. I think she's thinking about something else while working. By answering these questions, we can develop a position to understand other people's positions. How are you try to manage your own impression of others? How influenced others?  I try to feel that I am a consistent person. I hope that the word sincerity will be the word that introduces
