Project 3 : Technology Assignment / extra credit assignment (Baek ji woo)

Saturday, May 22, 2021  I didn't use the computer, TV, or cell phone that I usually use. I didn't use this technology, but I recorded it with paper and a fan. I recorded the discomfort and feelings at that time.  I had to wake up without an alarm. I overslept. No one was home, but I couldn't call anyone. When I was young, my mother wrote "I'll go to the mart" on paper, but now she doesn't because she can easily make calls. It was hard to talk to my friends because I didn't have a cell phone. I was very bored because I couldn't watch videos or play computer games. So I spent time cooking, drawing, reading, and studying. I was happy to read a paper book after a long time. I had nothing to do, so I organized my room and took a walk. I always listen to music when I go out, but when I go out without using my cell phone, I can hear natural sounds such as cars, birds, wind, and people. But I felt the need for a cell phone because I couldn't see the tim

Project 3 : Technology Assignment - extra credit assignment (Kim Hye-Jin)

The technologies of the 20th and 21st centuries are closely related to our daily life.  A day without technology was a new challenge and a very meaningful experience. Let me introduce the methodology of my project. I chose this Thursday to do the project for the sake of observation because I didn’t have any classes. From morning to night, in chronological order of the day, I observed my life without technology and recorded it in a notebook.   The following is the description. First of all, it's hard to get up in the morning without technology. Usually, I set the alarm on the mobile phone and wake up. However, there was no cell phone alarm, so I overslept until 11 o'clock and woke up.   When I usually make breakfast, I make it while watching a cooking video on YouTube. However, I didn't have a cell phone and a computer, so I didn't try new dishes, so I ate my favorite toast which I always make. I was disappointed that I couldn't try a new recipe without the media.

The Public Observation Project: Extra Credit Assignment - Eunjin Jung

The Public Observation Project: Extra Credit Assignment - Eunjin Jung What did you do?  In this project, I observed cafe baristas and students in the cafe in front of Hanyang University.  What did you learn?  Based on Whyte's urban sociology, I learned the conditions to become a successful public place by observing how people interact in public places.  And I could observe that people's choices vary depending on their surroundings or circumstances in the public space. Was it fun? Yes. I enjoyed this project! Because of COVID 19, I didn't go out often, but I could feel the vitality and energy of people while sitting in a cafe for observation. It gave me a lot of energy.

Public Space Observation : extra credit assignment (Kim Hye-Jin)

The Korean subway is an important means of transportation for Koreans. There are many stations, helping Koreans to go to work and move conveniently. I chose a subway station where a lot of people gather as a public place and observed how people wait right before the subway ride. The subway station I chose is Bupyeong Station in Incheon. This station is a transfer station, so it is crowded with many people. So, let me introduce the methodology. I sat on a chair at a subway station for two weeks and observed people waiting every 4 hours. The people I have observed are people waiting for the subway. I divided my observations by time and recorded them directly in the table. The following are the results I observed by time zone. In the morning hours from 7 am to 11 am, when people wait for the subway, most of them are standing. The morning hours are crowded with people going to work. People wait in line in front of the subway to get on the subway for sitting in an empty seat. Some of t

What does it mean that a public place is successful? I think that a successful public place is a 'place that people use a lot'. These feelings, such as comfort and familiarity, can also be said to be a criterion for success, but that feeling can also be a reason why many people come to the place in the end. I think that being a public place itself is intended to reflect the state of society in which several people belong together. Therefore, being a successful public place implies that it is a place that people use a lot.   “Every successful indoor space provides food”. Do you agree? Not every successful indoor space serves food. Amusement parks and squares provide food, but indoor spaces such as hospitals and museums that clearly have the purpose and intention of visiting do not provide food separately. Therefore, I think the availability of food depends on the purpose and characteristics of the indoor space.   “Shops are important for liveliness and the additional
