Urban Sociology Extra Credit Assignment - SuBin Choi

What does it mean that a public place is successful? I think that a successful public place is a 'place that people use a lot'. These feelings, such as comfort and familiarity, can also be said to be a criterion for success, but that feeling can also be a reason why many people come to the place in the end. I think that being a public place itself is intended to reflect the state of society in which several people belong together. Therefore, being a successful public place implies that it is a place that people use a lot.   “Every successful indoor space provides food”. Do you agree? Not every successful indoor space serves food. Amusement parks and squares provide food, but indoor spaces such as hospitals and museums that clearly have the purpose and intention of visiting do not provide food separately. Therefore, I think the availability of food depends on the purpose and characteristics of the indoor space.   “Shops are important for liveliness and the additiona...

Week 4 : Extra Credit Assignment

The Interaction Assignment. What did you do? What did you learn? Was it fun? Based on Goffman's theory, I analyzed the interactions in elevators that are common in everyday life. I chose this interaction because I wanted to prove that I can find a sociological point of view even in this small daily life. After reading Goffman's "The Presentation of Self In Everyday Life," I came to see the world from various perspectives. The society was a kind of "peformance" and that we were "actors" in the play, therefore, each day felt more special and precious. And it was very interesting that I could be not only an observer, but also an 'actor'. In the future, I would like to apply this theory to other interactions to better understand society and analyze its complex relationships.

What is more important: the actions of individuals or the environment that influences them? I believe that individual behavior is more important than the environment that affects the individual. I think that the environment is created by individuals, institutions are settled, and structured. That's because the environment is the group of individuals and the core is the individual who makes up the environment. Let's look at the following pictures and try to answer:how do those people feel? Why do they act the way they do? What can we learn from answering those questions? It was pictures that I could feel that a person's life was diverse. Every picture shows people's facial expressions, and I wondered what the two monks in India were looking at and what the expression meant. They seem to have seen something they usually haven't seen. By answering these questions, you can understand other people's thoughts, lives, and even society. How are you try to manage your ...

Week 1 : Sociology of Everyday Life

Why are you taking this class? I have been interested in sociology since I was in high school. At that time, a sociologist was also a dream. Since I was a child, I have been curious about the society where various people live, and now I want to work in the journalism or advertising industry rather than a sociologist. I think the journalism and advertising industry also need the ability to understand the trends of society and people's lifestyles and thoughts. Therefore, I am interested in sociology and want to develop the above abilities, so I took this class. What PRACTICAL SKILLS do you expect to gain from attending it? I think the actual skills that can be gained by attending this lecture are English skills, Wikipedia skills, and various perspectives on society. First of all, unlike most lectures, this is an English-only lecture, so I think my English skills will improve as the class progresses. Also, I haven't edited and posted posts directly on Wikipedia, but I think this...
