Urban Sociology Extra Credit Assignment - Eunjin Jung

1. Every successful indoor space provides food. Do you agree?

Yes, I agree. Let's think about when we meet our friends. When we meet a friend who has been away for a long time, of course we want to eat delicious food and talk together. Not only before we meet our friends, family, and boy friend/girl friend, we try to decide food that eat together. Of course, we will visit a comfortable indoor place with delicious food. That's why I agree that every successful indoor place provides food.

2. Can we think of places that should have more stores? Would the campus be better if it had more shopping places?

I think having more shopping places makes the campus better. Of course, the campus is a place for various studies, but it is also a place for communication and social activities with various people. And I think shopping is also an important social activity. If there are more shopping places on campus, students can buy things they need right away, have more choices when shopping, and relieve their stress by shopping with friends. For this reason, I think more shopping places will make the campus better.

3. Try to come up with at least one idea on how to make this building and its surroundings more friendly.

I think it is not hard to make building and its surroundings more friendly. The most important idea for this is “think of the users of the place first.” Because the targets of the place should feel familiar with the place. For example, kindergartens are painted with colorful colors and cute characters, and if there is a playground in front of them, children will surely feel comfortable and familiar with this place. For another example, decorating community facilities such as village halls and public libraries with comfortable colors and interior will help residents feel familiar.
